  1. Blog feedback - research and planning

    Alfie Chandler
    Research – a high level 4 (excellent)
    • Trailer recreation post is solid. I would like to see some reflection on what the trailer recreation project taught you about trailers specifically (e.g. editing style, selection of shots, narrative etc…) and how this research will inform your own trailer package.
    • Possible titles – perhaps a little more detail about your decision to go with ‘Wiccan’ – for example, consider connotations of the word and images/scenarios it may bring to an audience’s mind.
    • Pitch feedback – could you include a conclusion from your survey results? Something which gives us an idea of what you have chosen to take on board and use (and why).
    Planning – a mid-level 4 (excellent)
    • Narrative research and planning – you would benefit from linking these two things. For example, the decisions you have made with your own trailer’s narrative seem to be strongly influenced by your research findings – make these links/comparisons in your posts.
    • Wiccan in real life – in your conclusion it may be worth mentioning why real life fears are a popular source for horror films (consider the ‘uses and gratifications’ theory – e.g. what audiences get from a media text).
    • User ratings on IMDB – it is worth noting that not every member of the audience would go on to rate the films they have seen on IMDB. You should acknowledge this in your findings. From the research I found that horror is consumed by more females than males (you have the age bracket correct though) – take a look at this article: www.thewrap.com/box-office-how-horror-films-conjuring-win-scaring-young-women-104901/
    • Drafting of SB and script could be more rigorous with better analysis of what has changed and why (e.g. colour coded annotations and some comparative comments)
OVERALL – Higher end of a level 4 (18/20). A lot of excellent work in here and there is a definite sense of progression and journey. Your hard work has really paid off! See feedback above for how this blog could be a 20/20!
